The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Body Butter : Review

Hello people,

With the chilling January getting on my nerves, here I go with the most inevitable review for the cold winters : The Body Shop Body Butter review! What else, but the amazing body butters from TBS could be the best buddy for you in winters, when the skin needs utmost hydration?

I, for one, cannot bear dry skin. So winters are when I am extra careful about providing much needed moisture to my skin. I am an ardent devotee of body butters during these months as they are no-brainers when it comes to nurturing your skin. πŸ™‚

During the flash sale at TBS India website (www.thebodyshop.in) back in December’15, I accidentally discovered that they were providing free shipping on orders of any amount + 20% off on any 3 products!! Overjoyed, I ordered Wild Argan Oil and Fuji Green Tea (review coming soon) Body Butters and a Strawberry soap. I am currently using the soap and loving it, and gifted the Wild Argan Oil Body Butter to my mom.

My review of the body butter :

As TBS claims, it is “enriched with Community Fair Trade argan oil from Morocco for dry skin”, and provides “24 hour hydration”. The best thing about TBS products is sworn by all who know, the commendable fact that its products are “against animal testing”. Who would not love cruelty-free products? Better still, it is paraben-free! Well when I thought of giving this to my mom, I knew somewhere inside me that she’s gonna love this, and so she did!

Coming to the packaging, it comes in the same clan of tubs that TBS Body Butters come in. Some consider it a bit unhygienic for use, however you can always use a spatula. Otherwise, it is a pretty good and easy-to-handle tub. πŸ™‚

  • Β Consistency : This has a thick consistency, much like the Brazil Nut Body Butter (that I used in the previous winter), and not the souffle like consistency of most others. But it beautifully blends into the skin like “butter”. πŸ˜€
  • Smell : It bears a very sweet smell, and by “sweet” I mean sweet, that is prominent when you open the tub. This smell may be characteristic of moroccan oil, just like coconut oil products have the characteristic smell of coconut oil. πŸ™‚ I had used the Body Lotion from the same range, that bore a similar fragrance. On application however, this sweetness reduces to mildly sweet, that some may even prefer. This smell lingers on for around 2 hours or may be a little more or less.

See how beautifully it blends into the skin? And TBS definitely lives up to its claim of providing a long, long period of hydration (though not exactly 24 hours), and we are happy. Yes, the skin drinks up the moisture helping to get rid of winter chap.

As I already mentioned, the longevity of TBS Wild Argan Oil Body Butter on the skin is just awesome! I love the way it keeps skin feeling soft and smooth throughout the day, inside or outside home. Apply it post-bath, and you are good to go for the rest of the day! The quantity is sufficient to last you the winter (well in Kolkata, we hardly get a month or two of winters :)), but that again varies. However a thing to note is that, spring and autumn can also be unforgiving on your skin, so you can have it in your kitty from the pre-winter months ofΒ  October and November, to care and pamper your skin, and keep re-stocking accordingly. For me, I cannot think of winters without these gems from TBS. πŸ™‚

I love, love this Body Butter and so does my mom. Initially she was all praises for it, so I couldn’t help trying it when I went to visit her for a few days. I had loved the TBS Wild Argan Oil Body Lotion as well, and finished it up in a month. The Body Butter is more moisturizing and perfect for dry winters. It actually can heal your skin. It’s more like a skin treatment, a boon for thirsty skin in winters.

Now, summing up the pros and cons of The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Body Butter :

Pros :

  1. Cruelty-free
  2. Paraben-free
  3. Instant hydration
  4. Extreme moisturization for whole day!
  5. Sweet smell (some may find it strong, but I have no issues)
  6. Easy availability

Cons :

  1. Packaging (TBS could provide a spatula)

Rating : 5/5 πŸ™‚

L’Oreal Color Riche Pure Reds Star Collection Lipstick : Pure Amaranthe Review, Swatch

Hello all,

The Pure Reds by L’Oreal were launched almost a year back, and have garnered rave reviews ever since. These are 7 in total, each having its unique tone of the shade red (though not all are in their true sense, a red), and suited to flatter a different kind of skin tone.

Pure Amaranthe is inspired by the L’Oreal beauty Gong Li. A pink-toned red, or a overly-stated fuchsia, you can actually pick it up your stash anytime you are looking to brighten your face anytime during the day! Starting from a subtle office wear to wearing it for some drama at parties, this shade can instantly perk up your face. This is a beautiful, beautiful bluish-reddish-pink (this is how I describe the shade:)), and a close cousin of L’Oreal Paris Moist Matte Raspberry Syrup, this can be your budget pink liplove!

My Review on Pure Amarenthe :

Packaging wise, I would say its bold black packaging with a colored bullet that serves the dual purpose of adding the feminine touch to the otherwise black body, as well as for easy identification of shades. The packaging is sturdy and the cap gives way to a stunning gold twist-up mechanism.Β The bullet is designed for easy application. However, the bullet may be prone to breaking if not very careful. Otherwise, the lipstick is quite easy to carry around in your bag for touch-ups as and when required.

(The first swatch from the top is a double-swipe, the second is a single-swipe of Pure Amaranthe. You can see how pigmented a single swipe is)

Texture-wise, I feel it is of similar category as the Moist Matte range, smooth and velvety and glides on easily on the lips. The pigmentation is superb, and you can get a subtle, day-wear look with just one swipe! For evenings or party wear, 2-3 swipes are sufficient, depending a lot on your attire and where you’re headed to. Post-application, you get a smooth matte finish. However, if your lips are on the drier side, it is recommended to use a lip balm before applying the lipstick, because on drier lips, this may accentuate lines.

Now coming to its staying power, it stays on for a good 5-6 hours without meals. With meals, you may feel the need of a touch-up, but of course that depends. I have been loving it ever since I started using it (it’s been some 7-8 months). I had even loved Raspberry Syrup from their Moist Matte Range. Given both the shades are quite close, I would say possessing any one of these should suffice. For beauties having both of these, Raspberry Syrup is rather a going-to-a-first-date-or-candlelight-dinner kinda pink, whereas Pure Amaranthe would be the perfect fuchsia for a ball-night-with-your-loved! πŸ™‚

Pros :

  1. Smooth and buttery in texture
  2. Easy to apply and doesn’t tug on lips
  3. Bold and sturdy packaging
  4. Amazing color to complement any skin tone
  5. Easy availability
  6. Good staying power

Cons :

  1. Bullet may be prone to breakage
  2. Price could be a tad bit lesser, recommend buying it during sales!
  3. May accentuate lines on drier lips

My rating : 4.75/5

If you are looking for a bright fuchsia to complement your skin-tone, I would definitely suggest going for this shade as it enlivens any skin tone with its starry color. But if you’re not sure, you can also keep Raspberry Syrup in your options, then swatch both and decide.

Happy shopping people!
